8045 IRON CROSS 1ST CLASS EK1 SILVER 1870 IN CASE IRON CROSS 1ST CLASS EK1 SILVER 1870 IN CASE This is a very attractive item being an 1870 FIRST Class cross in original fitted case. Although carrying no maker marks, it appears to be in real silver. The core is magnetic iron and the cross is convex. There were only a handful or 1870 makers and this cross appears to be a private purchase replacement piece made in the 1890 – 1930 period. The case is the dark red/brown type with the usual purple velvet base and upper lid silk. The case is worn and has some staining to the silk and wear to the underside as though it has been stored somewhere damp for many years. The original 1870 struck crosses now command prices in many thousands of pounds and very rarely come up for sale so this one priced accordingly as an officer replacement type.  £550
