6073 | Wound Badge WW2 silver - worn cond. | This is an example of a late war silver grade wound badge in zinc. During the 1944/45 period, the amount of zinc decreased with increase in lead and other additives leading to what is sometimes called monkey metal. This badge has gone a very dark colour and parts have been chipped off leading to exposed zinc oxide inside which looks like a white powder.
The manufacturing process still maintained excellent detail despite the very poor alloy used. Low price. | £24 |
